What attracted  you to a career in Finance , and how did you get started in this field?

Before starting a career in finance, I worked in childcare as a teaching assistance at a school in Jersey. I decided to make the move into finance in 2016, joining a local trust company and I am so glad I did. I didn’t know too much about Private Client administration at the time, but I liked the idea of meeting clients & building relationships. My first client was a family office, which I really enjoyed and I knew I wanted to continue and progress my career further in this field.

What’s one thing about your role that would surprise people?

I think that people who don’t work within the finance industry sometimes think it’s boring but it’s really not. Every day is different, and I feel that I’m always learning something new. I am fairly new to the management role, so I am really trying to focus on assisting the junior members of our team and helping them progress and develop their knowledge as well as servicing our clients to a high standard. It’s challenging but rewarding.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work that helps you unwind or feel recharged?

I have a Cavapoo puppy called Daisy who is 8 months old and so much fun. She has got me out walking even when the weather isn’t great. I try to go to Pilates and boxing classes when I can too.

Is there a particular mentor or piece of advice that has shaped your career?

I am not sure there is a single piece of advice. Throughout my career I have been really lucky to work with a number of amazing female leaders who have really motivated, supported, and inspired me in my career and my progression to date.

If you could give your younger self one piece of career advice, what would it be?

That there is no rush! Enjoy each stage of your career and each role. I have always asked questions to ensure I understand what I am doing, and this is something I really encourage the junior members of the team to do, don’t be afraid to ask for help and to ask questions.

If you could switch roles with anyone else in the company for a day, who would it be and why?

I would love to work in HR for the day! I am a people person, and it would be great to be able to interact with many people from across the company throughout the day!
